Claverham Free Church (Evangelical)
Claverham Road (Independent - Non-Denominational)
The fellowship was founded in 1925. At first, members met in a room at
The Cottage Farm. As numbers increased, larger premises were needed and
a former 'Carpenter's Shop', which was opposite the Post Office, was used.
The gift of a plot of land enabled the present building to be erected and
the first meeting was held on 29th June 1927.
The Church has an evangelical, non-conformist tradition which it still holds
to. The need to support missionary work, at home and abroad, has always
been a high priority and the present membership continues this work.
Meetings are held every Sunday, both in the morning and evening; these are conducted by visiting speakers
from a variety of churches.

whether they normally attend other Quaker meetings or visitors with no previous contact with the Society of
Friends.
Claverham Meeting House is a unique historical and architectural gem set in the heart of rural North Somerset.
The grade II* listed Georgian building originates from the time when it was at the heart of a growing Quaker
community in the Somerset countryside.
Today, it is still a much cherished place of Quaker worship, while also used for day conferences, retreats, family
holidays, art exhibitions, music camps and drama workshops. One of the two cottages on either side of the
meeting room is available for residential booking for up to seven people while the cottage on the other side is
home to a family who act as wardens. Camping in the grounds is available for larger groups, and the Barn
(which is also a listed building) is also available for booking in the summer months. The barn is suitable for
additional workshop, recreation or exhibition space. See www.claverhammeetinghouse.org.uk/ for more
details.
