MESSAGES FROM CLAVERHAM FUTURE: 27/05/2026 Hello everyone We have had a number of emails from concerned residents who received a letter from North Somerset Council, stating that the deadline for submission of comments on the Wain Homes development is 11th June 2026. According to the North Somerset Council planning portal, the consultation deadline is 25th June 2026 (Ref: 26/P/0872/FUL). As a result of this confusion we contacted Steve Bridger who confirmed the following with the planning officer at the council: Please be reassured that while you may see different consultation deadline dates quoted on notices, letters and the planning portal, public comments can still be submitted right up until the day the application is determined and/or heard at committee. This isn't a mistake; it is another odd quirk of the planning system. However, Claverham Future recommends that all comments are submitted via Public Access (ie the planning portal) on or before 25th June 2026 as previously advised. Please don’t forget our public meeting at the Claverham Village Hall on 12th June 2026. Details of the format of the meeting will be circulated shortly, but we will be discussing the database of evidence we have prepared and sharing advice on the best approach for using this evidence to draft responses for both the Wain Homes proposal and the Latimer/Clarion proposal (which we are expecting soon). Thank you once again for your support. 23/05/2026 It is time to show our collective strength and make our voices heard! As some of you may have seen Wain Homes has now lodged its application for 100 homes north of Claverham Road (Ref: 26/P/0872/FUL on the North Somerset Council planning portal). The deadline for submissions is 25 June 2026 so we need to act quickly. To this end we are planning a public meeting at the Claverham Village Hall on 12 June 2026 at 6pm (subject to venue confirmation). At this meeting we will discuss the database of evidence we have prepared and share advice on the best approach for using this evidence to draft responses for both the Wain Homes proposal and the Latimer/Clarion proposal (which we are expecting soon). We will also invite comment on whether we should be working with a planning consultant and any fundraising that would be required to meet this cost (estimated at around £7k). We would ask that you please hold off from submitting responses before this date, as we would like to ensure that all responses are coordinated and as effective as possible. We need every letter to count! In the meantime, please do have a look at the planning application on the NSC planning portal and share any comments/observations/suggested arguments you think might be useful by emailing the committee on claverhamfuture@gmail.com. Together we can do this. I would like to take this opportunity once again to thank you all for your support. Jane Dare REFERENCE THE LATIMER DEVELOPMENT PROPOSAL: The survey is planned to take place on Monday 15th September at the junction of the High Street and Claverham Road. We are looking for volunteers who can do a 2 hour shift at any of the following times: 05.00-07.00 If you are able to help, please could you reply to
claverhamfuture@gmail.com indicating which time slots you could do so that we can compile a roster. If you are able to do more than one time please could you indicate this so that we can allocate across any gaps, but we will not ask you to do more than one shift unless you indicate you are willing to do so. We are looking for 3 people per slot and full instructions and equipment will be provided. Traffic is likely to be a very big part of our response so it is vital that we get this survey done. I know some people have already volunteered to help with the count at Jasmine Lane/Brockley Way which will take place on the same day, so thank you very much to all those volunteers. Kind regards 01/09/2025: Following our first committee meeting last week I thought I would update everybody. Our purpose was agreed as “To gather and circulate facts/evidence for residents to use in compiling comments to any planning application for Land North of High Street, Claverham and any other major developments.” As mentioned previously we have a tight timetable to work to with the planning application expected mid-October and only 6+ weeks after that to get responses back to North Somerset Council (NSC). We need to be able to submit as many comments as we can. To this end the following actions were agreed: 1. To increase membership of Claverham Future by shout-outs on social media and encouraging people to share details with friends, neighbours and colleagues. We currently have over 280 subscribers but, given the population of Claverham, are sure that this can be increased. 2. To fundraise to support our campaign. Funds are needed to finance our communication channels and to organise the information gathering, surveys etc. A communication regarding fundraising will be sent out shortly. 3. To identify additional volunteers and local expertise by sending out a survey to all current and future subscribers to Claverham Future. 4. To set up sub-committees to gather information on the following and to allocate committee members to champion each sub-committee:
I would like to take this opportunity to thank you all once again for your tremendous response and to remind you that if you have any suggestions/concerns etc please email the committee on claverhamfuture@gmail.com. Jane Dare
23/08/2025: A village meeting was held on 18 August 2025 at the village hall and follow-up comments and information can be found in the Claverham Future Facebook Group at: https://www.facebook.com/groups/297243043816296 or go to Facebook and search for “Claverham Future” MESSAGE FROM CLAVERHAM FUTURE - 23/08/2025 At the meeting I agreed to chair the volunteer group we know as Claverham Future (CF). I am joined by: With leading lights This group cannot do the work alone and will rely on all campaigners to gather information. We may ask you to work with an expert in a specialist area to gather particular facts, feed this back to CF who will then circulate this out for you to feed into your planning responses. CF as a body does not submit planning responses as emphasised at the meeting it is for all residents of the village to submit responses. And as a point of note: I am meeting with the CF group above on 27th August and after that we will put out a further newsletter identifying Committee member roles, areas you can pursue and/or particular calls for assistance. In the meantime, if you have any ideas on fact finding please pursue these but please do feed back your findings. For instance, I know of one local resident who has already crafted a maildrop for the Jasmine Lane area to conduct a traffic survey. Our aim will be to connect this survey with other areas of the village. Finally, it would be remiss of me not to thank Dave Hayler who conducted the meeting on Monday together with Nigel Cooper who with others have done such sterling work with CF in the past and will continue to support CF going forward. We must carry on the campaign they started and challenge planning applications that have a detrimental impact on our village. Jane Dare |
